Terms of use

Last updated 15 August 2026. These terms cover this website and the Syft beta.

By using this website or the Syft beta you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use them.

Who provides the service

This website and Syft are provided by Future of Information, a nonprofit organisation. Contact: foi.admin@proton.me.

What Syft does, and what it does not do

Syft analyses how a text is written. It flags narrative and framing patterns associated with disinformation and manipulation, and explains why each one was raised.

Syft is not a fact-checker. It does not verify claims and it does not establish whether anything in a text is true or false. Its output is a signal to support your own judgement, not a verdict on a text, a publication or a person. Do not present a Syft result as proof of misconduct, and do not treat it as the sole basis for any decision that affects someone.

Syft is in beta. Results can be wrong, inconsistent or incomplete, and the method is still being refined. If a result looks wrong, tell us.

Access

Access to the beta is given at our discretion, may be limited, and may be withdrawn at any time without notice. Access is personal to you. Do not share it.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Your content and ours

You keep any rights you hold in the text you submit, and you confirm you are allowed to submit it. We use it only to return an analysis to you.

The site, its text and its design belong to us. Our methodology has not been published yet. When the full product is released, the method will be published with it, under its own licence and terms.

Disclaimer and liability

Everything here is provided as it is, with no warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not promise that the site or Syft will be available, accurate, reliable, complete, uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for any particular purpose.

You use this website and the Syft beta entirely at your own risk, and you are solely responsible for anything you do with the output, including any decision, publication, allegation or action you base on it.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we accept no liability of any kind for any loss or damage arising from the use of this website or the Syft beta, or from reliance on anything they produce. This includes direct, indirect, incidental, consequential and reputational loss, loss of data, loss of profit, and any claim brought by a third party. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. Continuing to use the site or the beta after a change means you accept it. The full product, when released, will have its own terms.
